Bruno + Nico Van Mossevelde are a Paris-based photography and directing duo whose work spans fashion, portraiture, film and architecture. Their shared practice brings together a precise approach to composition and an openness to instinct, encounters and the unexpected. Light, texture and gesture shape images in which the familiar takes on an unfamiliar presence.

Their process moves between analogue and digital photography, combining the expressive qualities of film with the flexibility of digital tools. Across both, they seek a result that remains close to the analogue image: tactile, nuanced and open to imperfection. Grain, colour and tonal depth contribute to a visual language in which reality can take on a subtly surreal quality. Rooted in real people and places, their images evoke an atmosphere that feels at once tangible and dreamlike. This sensibility also informs their moving-image work, where rhythm, duration and movement extend their photographic approach.

Personal projects and photographic books are an integral part of their practice, offering time to develop narratives beyond the rhythm of commissions. These include Maasai, photographed in Kenya; Like a Bird Now, an exploration of the nude; and the forthcoming Traceurs, a photographic project and book centred on parkour and the relationship between the body and the spaces it moves through. Across these projects, the human figure becomes a recurring point of connection between movement, identity and environment.

Architecture introduces another dimension to their work through an ongoing engagement with the archive of architect Ivan Van Mossevelde, Bruno’s father. Their books and photographic work devoted to his architecture draw extensively on images they have made themselves. Working with this material brings personal memory, architectural history and photographic authorship into dialogue. They approach the archive as a continuing body of work, revisiting how buildings are seen, inhabited and remembered, and how one generation’s creative practice can be interpreted through another’s.

 

Their commissioned work includes collaborations with Giorgio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent Beauty, Bulgari, Gucci, Zegna, Ferrari, Roger Vivier and Massimo Dutti.

 

Their photographs have appeared in publications including Numéro, Icon, W, V Magazine, WSJ, Les Echos, Boycott, Hero, Twin and Carnale.
